So tell me, Baron…

I have just discovered that the best game* ever made is back in print.

You have no idea how happy this makes me. Well, about this happy:

*One of many best games every made. Definitely the best sit in a circle and tell ridiculous stories game.

We are not alone

Bitsy day today. Started with writing but then got distracted by the lovely weather outside. I walked along the creek to my friend L’s house and talked and drank coffee and collected many, many lemons.

If there is a Doktor Hu meeting soon I shall make lemonade – perhaps even lavender lemonade.

Had a mostly nice drawing-type night with Miss A and folks yesterday. I did get slightly caught in the cycle of generosity that occurs when people buy each other rounds of drinks, which is in principle nice but then everyone wants a turn so that everything evens out. Which is to say, I felt like towards the end of the night I was acting like this:

But I exaggerate. Mostly, happy as an oyster.

Writing: Jon, Solli and Leik still haven’t started climbing the mountain to find the cave. I think they’re developed a bit of an allergy to narrative. Need some authorial antihistamines.

Let’s go start a band…

….we’ll name it something no one understands.

I’m a bit obsessed with the second album from Astronautalis at the moment, especially “Love Song for Gary Numan”. The two stories I’m working on at the moment are both a little influenced by it, even though one was technically started years before I’d even heard the album.

I wrote this part of the song into a note for someone once.

We can bust on out this place together,
Hijack a jetplane and wave goodbye,
They’ll never forget you, but no one can catch you,
Live the dreams of pirates, thieves, smugglers and spies

The two short stories are “Hell Street” and “Giant”. “Giant” needs a new title. I’m also starting work on the cookbook again and thinking thoughts about novels. I might start doing a Cherie Priest-style update on current projects at the end of each post.

Non-writing stuff: last night had a lovely night watching cool new Doctor Who with my lovely & cool new friend Miss A. I did intend to watch A Game of Thrones as well but it would have really killed the new-Who buzz and besides we had a great conversation instead.

Batman and his Bathat

As for the show, the start was underwhelming until that Astronaut walked out of the lake. And then. Man.

Wondering Andrew Rilstone has to say about it.

Doggish Easter

I am currently dogsitting for a friend. Last time I did so there were two dogs, but old age has claimed poor Pixel. The remaining dog, Sunny, is a lot needier in his absence but still good company.

I’m trying to remember how to blog – I’m sure it will come back to me. I’m also writing fiction again – about 1/4 of the way through a first draft of “Hell Street”. It’s all setup at the moment, will need to be merciless in draft two.

Giants such as these

Thrym sat on a mound, the giants’ master,
Leashes of gold he laid for his dogs,
And stroked and smoothed the manes of his steeds.

“How fare the gods, how fare the elves?
Why comst thou alone to the giants’ land?”
